Brita pitcher filters are cheap to run, about $0.12 per gallon for the Elite. None of them is certified for PFAS. A Brita filter will not fit a PUR pitcher, so switching means buying a new pitcher.

Brita said the Elite was certified for PFOA and PFOS. The listing no longer shows it.

Brita’s February 2023 Elite data sheet said IAPMO had certified the Elite filter (OB06) for PFOA and PFOS, at 98.1% reduction, in 8 pitcher models. On October 7, 2026, IAPMO’s certificate W-13905 lists those same Elite pitchers for lead only, and the Hub for VOCs only. WQA’s Brita listing has no PFAS claim for any Brita filter.

Below is IAPMO’s current certificate for the Elite pitchers. The only reduction claim is lead. The same is true for every Elite pitcher on it (Everyday, Huron, Tahoe, Marina, Metro, Slim, Wave, Pacifica, Space Saver, Ultramax and Denali).

The one Brita product that is certified: Brita Under Sink

IAPMO lists the Brita Under Sink system (model BUSS01, replacement filter BUSF01) under NSF/ANSI 53-2024 for PFOA/PFOS, lead, mercury, asbestos, toxaphene and VOCs. Each filter is rated for 660 gallons. It installs under the kitchen sink and needs its own faucet hookup. We found no Amazon listing for it on October 8, 2026, so we do not link it.

What “certified for PFOA and PFOS” means

Under NSF/ANSI 53, a filter passes the PFOA/PFOS test if it takes water spiked with 1.5 parts per billion of PFOA and PFOS combined and brings it down to 0.07 parts per billion (70 parts per trillion) or less, for its full rated gallons. Those test levels are printed on Brita’s 2023 data sheet. “Total PFAS” is a newer NSF/ANSI 53 claim meant to cover more PFAS than these two.

A brand’s own lab test is not the same thing. Certification means an outside certifier tested the exact model, lists it in public, and checks the factory.
